All walks are graded according to their difficulty and length. Please read this carefully to ensure that you understand the level of the walk before making a booking.
🥾🥾🥾🥾 – Requires fitness and stamina to cope with several steep climbs on the open hills and will cover a long distance at a steady pace. Will last all day.
🥾🥾🥾 – Generally will involve two steep climbs on the open hills and will cover a moderate distance at a steady pace. May take most of the day.
🥾🥾 – Will seldom have steep climbs but if they do they will be taken at a gentle pace. May include open hill country. Usually less than a full day.
🥾 – At a low level, no steep climbs and taken at a gentle pace. Not more than half a day.
Dogs are only allowed on some walks – please check the “additional information” section for each walk. If you decide to bring your dog to the festival, please follow the countryside code and keep him or her under effective control at all times. Always clean up after your dog and get rid of the mess responsibly –‘ bag it and bin it’
Please ensure that you are adequately equipped for the walk. For 2, 3 and 4 boot walks it is essential that you wear/bring walking boots, a waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothes, gloves and hat and a rucksack. The safety of the group is paramount and our leaders may ask you to stay behind if you are not properly prepared.
Food and Drink
Please bring enough food and drink for the walk – there are no cafes on the hills! We recommend a packed lunch for full day walks. Buy your supplies in town before setting off and help support our local economy. Hay has shops and cafes aplenty.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the start of each walk. Walks will commence at the given time, whether all participants have arrived or not. Please note that durations given for walks are approximate and walks may overrun / be cut short according to conditions on the day..
Please book your place in advance via our website: www.haywalkingfestival.com to avoid disappointment. Bookings are non-refundable. Last minute tickets, information and advice will be available in the Tourist Information Bureau opposite Hay car park on Oxford Road.
Please note that tickets are non-refundable although we are happy to transfer your ticket to another individual if you are unable to attend. Refunds will not be offered in the event of cancellation due to adverse weather, illness or other reasons beyond the organiser’s control. We recommend you take out adequate insurance to cover you in this eventuality.
